The Catholic Church's top exorcist, who claims to have sent 160,000 demons back to hell, says he wants Pope Francis to allow all priests to start performing the ritual to deal with a rising demand for exorcisms from the faithful.

Father Gabriele Amorth, 88, who also heads the International Association of Exorcists, told The Sunday Times that he will ask Pope Francis to allow all priests the right to do exorcisms without the church's approval. According to the report, priests currently need special approval from their bishop to perform the rite and it is rarely granted.

"I will ask the pope to give all priests the power to carry out exorcisms, and to ensure priests are properly trained for these starting with the seminary. There's a huge demand for them," said Father Amorth.

He explained that he was inspired to make the request after watching Pope Francis perform what he insists was an exorcism on a man "possessed by four demons" in St. Peter's Square.

"The pope is also the Bishop of Rome, and like any bishop he is also an exorcist," Amorth reportedly told La Repubblica newspaper. "It was a real exorcism. If the Vatican has denied this, it shows that they understand nothing."

"There was now, more than ever, a need for exorcists to combat people possessed by 'sorcerers' and 'Satanists,'" he noted in that report.

Huge Asteroid 1998 QE2 Sails By Earth on Friday

Megan Gannon
SPACE.com

A massive asteroid nearly 2 miles wide will zip by Earth on Friday (May 31), in a cosmic event that has grabbed the attention of stargazers, scientists and even White House officials. The asteroid poses no threat of hitting Earth during the flyby, NASA officials assure.

The huge asteroid 1998 QE2 is the size of nine cruise ships, about 1.7 miles (2.7 kilometers) across, NASA scientists say. While the asteroid makes its closest approach to Earth on Friday, traveling within 3.6 million miles (5.8 million km), you don't have to wait that long to see it. NASA chief Charles Bolden will host live telescope views of the asteroid today (May 30) at 1:30 p.m. EDT (1739 GMT) during a one-hour broadcast from the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.

Psychic Robot Bartender Knows When You Want It to Pour You a Beer (VIDEO)

Will Oremus
Slate

What’s better than a robot that can serve you beer? How about a robot that can tell when you’re about to move your glass, so it doesn't accidentally pour the beer straight into your lap?

That’s the ambitious goal of computer scientists at Cornell’s Personal Robotics Lab, who equipped a PR2 robot with a Microsoft Kinect camera and a database of 3-D videos to teach it to anticipate human actions. So if you reach for your mug when it’s getting ready to pour you a brewski, it realizes that you might be about to move the mug—then waits until you've put it back before beginning to pour.

The artificial intelligence involved is akin to the algorithms Google uses to autocomplete your words when you start typing them into a search window on your computer. In this case, the robot watches you begin to move and develops a few hypotheses about where you’re most likely to move so that it can respond appropriately.

Secret Room, Possibly From World War II, Found In Home In Norway

Michelle Manetti
The Huffington Post

One of the coolest features a home can have is a secret room, even if it's empty. But if you're lucky enough to find one that has some goodies in it, like Reddit user mYNDIG, then you are in for a real treat.

The redditor discovered a secret passageway in the attic of his home in Norway. Inside the space the user found a lamp alarm, a map of West Europe, a lonely doll shoe and a note in Norwegian that roughly translates to: "If you have a weak stomach, you don't have access." (We confirmed with a native speaker).

According to user norwigga, the space could have been used as a radio room during World War II. "Norwegians would listen to English BBC radio and then make underground newspapers to spread news of how the war was truly going (the Germans only spread propaganda)." Vxx said it was most likely used to hide those in danger from the Nazis. "Rooms this size were often used to hide a lot more people than you would expect. It was probably used by a whole family."

Woolly mammoths could be brought back to life - scientists discover tissue 10,000 years old

The Woolly Mammoth, related to the elephant, lived on Wrangel Island in the Arctic Ocean until 4,000 years ago. Scientists can access well-preserved DNA frozen carcasses of the creatures

VICTORIA WOOLLASTON and WILL STEWART
Daily Mail Online

Scientists in Siberia have found the first ever well-preserved sample of blood from a woolly mammoth, which could be used to recreate the extinct species.

The 10,000-year-old blood was sealed inside ice beneath the carcass of a female mammoth.

Preserved muscle tissue was also found from the creature, aged between 50 and 60 when she died, according to the Russian team who made the discovery on islands off the northern coast of Siberia.

According to The Siberian Times, the blood will now be made available to South Korean scientists seeking to use mammoth DNA to bring creatures back to life.

The find - said to be the first time mammoth blood has been discovered - comes amid a hotly contested debate over the morality of Jurassic Park-style projects to restore extinct creatures to the planet, with some scientists insisting it will be impossible to get exactly the same mammoths as once roamed Siberia.

Semyon Grigoriev, head of the Museum of Mammoths of the Institute of Applied Ecology of the North at the North Eastern Federal University told The Siberian Times: 'We were really surprised to find mammoth blood and muscle tissue.'

He hailed it as 'the best preserved mammoth in the history of paleontology'.

'It is the first time we managed to obtain mammoth blood. No-one has ever seen before how the mammoth's blood flows.'

The mammoth was found in an ice tomb in the New Siberian Islands, or Novosibirsk Islands, and parts of the carcass are especially well preserved because they remained entirely frozen for 10,000 years.

'The approximate age of this animal is about 10,000 years old,' said Dr Grigoriev.

Martian UFO over NASA's Curiosity rover? (VIDEO)

The Mars Curiosity rover has caught a video of a UFO, but according to the poster of this video, NASA is sticking to its claim that the image is simply a defect with the rovers digital camera. This explanation is pretty weak when you watch the video. The object moves into view and then stops and seems to study the rover before going away. So is this a meteor entering the Martian atmosphere? Alien life? Or an alien craft sent to check out our martian activities? If this is a digital effects hoax, and it could be, it's pretty convincing. More research needs to be done.

Scotland Mystery creature washed up on beach

A strange find on the coast of Angus Scotland, an unidentified sea creature. Earlier this year thousands of cuttlefish and hundreds of puffins were found dead and decomposing along the coast of Angus beach. Currently, no one is certain of what this creature might be. If it's the Loch Ness monster, then it's a little far from it's Scottish inland home.

Fresno UFO is NOT a weather balloon, says Chief Meteorologist Kevan Ramer of KMPH Fox 26

Fresno UFO, May 15th 2013

The object that hovered over Fresno California on May 15th of 2013 for nearly 4 hours, and was witnessed by scores of people, is not a weather balloon. That's according to KMPH Chief Meteorologist Kevan Ramer. The winds traveling at the time were around 15 miles an hour and up to 30 mils and hour at an altitude of a thousand feet. The local Fox 26 news team reached out to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Fresno Air Terminal and the Army National Guard, but none of them could not give an explanation for the object.

400-year-old frozen moss brought back to life in scientist’s lab

SHEILA PRATT
EDMONTON JOURNAL

EDMONTON - In Arctic summers, Catherine La Farge camps out at the toe of the Teardrop glacier on Ellesmere Island in Canada’s North.

The University of Alberta biologist has watched the ice retreat, up to four metres a year now, giving her an unprecedented view of what was entombed under the ice for 400 years — old rocks, mud, and her specialty, ancient moss.

One day, walking along the edge of the ice, La Farge noticed some of the moss had a greenish tinge. That gave her a hunch — could there be life in that old moss after all?

In an amazing experiment, La Farge found the frozen moss was able to revive itself though it had been buried since the Little Ice Age (1550-1850). Her study, published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, is shaking up some basic assumptions about land plants.

In the past, when scientists occasionally came across plant material previously frozen under an Arctic glacier, they assumed the plant material was dead. Discoloured and lifeless, it certainly looked like it was.

In 2009, La Farge brought samples back to the lab. On closer examination, she noticed a tiny green stem. There were two possible explanations.

“Either it kept its colour under the glacier or it grew after the moss emerged 400 years later.”

There was only one way to find out.

La Farge ground up the old plant material, put it in petri dishes full of potting soil and set it in the grow chamber next to her office. Then she and graduate student Krista Williams and master’s student David Wilkie watched for signs of life.

It didn’t take long. In about four to six weeks, tiny green filaments or strands called protonema began to grow.

Months later, a dish was almost full of green moss from cells frozen for 400 years. Of 24 samples
potted, seven produced new growth.

Terrifying tales of real life EXORCIST the Reverend Tom Willis

By Warren Manger

In a lifetime dealing with the supernatural, he says he has seen things that cannot be explained, including ornaments flying through walls and bodiless voices calling to him from beyond the grave

The Exorcist: Rev Tom Willis

It has been dismissed by sceptics who believe it is the stuff of Hollywood horror movies rather than real life.

But when Pope Francis stopped to lay hands on a disabled boy last week some believe he shone a new light on the mysterious world of exorcism.

And while many people believe it has no place in modern society, there are still ministers across Britain who insist that they are casting out evil spirits.

Reverend Tom Willis is the UK’s leading exorcist – a man who has been called in to tackle poltergeists and the possessed for the past 50 years.

In a lifetime dealing with the supernatural, he says he has seen things that cannot be explained, including ornaments flying through walls and bodiless voices calling to him from beyond the grave.

And at the age of 82, the Church of England minister is still in demand around the world from people who want his help to destroy what they believe are evil spirits.

His expertise is so valued in Britain that even the police call on him.

Rev Willis says: “The people who come to me are really frightened. I’ve even had atheists tell me, ‘I don’t believe in ghosts but I can’t explain what is happening’.”

He adds: “I always say, ‘you don’t get possessed just walking to the supermarket’. You have to look for a reason why it should have happened. Often, people have dabbled quite strongly in evil.”

Ghost hunters search Connecticut inn dating from the Revolutionary War after staff see 'well-defined shadow in armchair'

26 May 2013

A team of 'ghost hunters' have surveyed a 338-year-old inn-turned-museum in Connecticut after employees spotted a well-defined shadow sitting in an arm chair in the building's living room.

In February, board members at Leffingwell House in Hartford alerted local business Paranormal Revelations after they apparently witnessed the shadow sit down and stand up twice from a large pink chair.

When the ghost hunters visited the historic city landmark, they also saw the figure, though all they could make out was the torso, Donna Fasulo, the case manager and co-founder of the group, said.

'That was very intriguing,' Fasulo told The Norwich Bulletin of the February sighting, adding that the group came back for a closer inspection earlier this month.

(Reuters) - An unmanned Delta 4 rocket blasted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Friday to put a multi-use, broadband communications satellite into orbit for the U.S. military.

The 217-foot (66-meter) tall rocket lifted off at 8:27 p.m. EDT (0027 Saturday GMT), soaring southeast over the Atlantic Ocean as it headed into orbit.

Perched on top of the rocket was the fifth member of the Wideband Global SATCOM, or WGS, satellite network, which provides the U.S. military, national leaders and allies with high-capacity broadband communications.

The satellites also can be used by remotely piloted aircraft, or drones, and other users simultaneously.

Virgin Mary Apparition In Ohio? Ghostly Figure Appears In Photo Behind Erin Potter, Child Battling Leukemia (VIDEO)

By Ryan Grenoble
KPTV - FOX 12

A ghostly figure has stunned one family, in Kirtland, Ohio, appearing in a family photograph behind their daughter, who had been battling leukemia at the time.

That the figure in question resembles the Virgin Mary, says Erin's mom, Jen Potter, is no coincidence. "My reaction immediately, it's Mary, they hear us, she's there," she told WOIO in an interview that aired Friday. "I didn't necessarily see it as a sign that Erin is fine and is going to walk out of this, but it's a sign that we're watching over her."

The photo shows Erin running through a field with a sprinkler in each hand at night. A somewhat blurred red figure appears behind Erin's right shoulder with eyes downcast and arms extended. Some have suggested the figure resembles the Virgin Mary.
